Skills for Heavy Gear

The prupose of this page is looking for a better way of handling the skill tests in Heavy Gear. I don't like the complexity rules, so I want to compare it with other alternatives.

Silhouette

The skill value is the number of dice (d6) rolled. For each die with value higher than the threshold, you increase the degree of success.

The difficulty of an action is changed through the threshold.

The complex skills have a higher purchasing cost to increase the value.

Burning Wheel

The skill value is the number of dice (d6) rolled. There is a fixed threshold (most of the times) and each die over that threshold is used to overcome the obstacles. The dice over the number of obstacles is the degree of success.

The difficulty of an action is changed through the number of obstacles.

The complex skills have a higher threshold.

FATE

The skill value is added to the roll (4dF). The threshold is substracted from the roll to get the degree of success.

The difficulty of an action is changed through the threshold.

There are no complex skills.
